Frequently Asked Questions

Dry needling is a physical therapy technique that uses thin, sterile needles to target dysfunctional muscle and neuromuscular tissue in order to reduce pain, improve movement, and support recovery.

As defined by the Wyoming State Board of Physical Therapy: “Dry needling” is a manual therapy technique that uses a filiform needle as (a) mechanical device to treat conditions within the scope of physical therapy practice. It is based upon Western medical concepts, requires a physical therapy examination and physical therapy diagnosis, and treats specific anatomic entities. Dry needling does not include the stimulation of auricular or acupuncture meridians."

When performed by a trained and licensed physical therapist or other qualified healthcare provider, dry needling is considered safe. Minor soreness or bruising is possible. More serious adverse events can happen though are rare. This is discussed thoroughly as part of our informed consent process.

With modern dry needling practices, most patients experience minimal discomfort. Sensations can include pressure, a brief twitch response, or mild soreness afterward, which typically resolves within 24–48 hours.

No. While both use similar needles, dry needling is based on modern anatomy and movement science and is performed by licensed physical therapists (as well as other healthcare providers) as part of a physical therapy plan. See our ‘Services’ tab for more information.

Yes. Only single-use, sterile needles are used, and strict clean needle techniques are followed. This is a core part of training given for dry needling.

Dry needling with e-stim  is commonly used for muscle and nerve related pain or dysfunction, and general neuromuscular recovery. It is not a cure-all and is used when clinically appropriate.

Some specific conditions that can benefit are:

  • Muscle strains (any region of the body)
  • Jaw pain/dysfunction (TMJ)
  • Athletic recovery
  • Sciatica
  • Lumbar pain/radiculopathy
  • Plantar fasciitis/plantar foot pain
  • Tennis Elbow (lateral elbow pain)
  • Golfer’s Elbow (medial elbow pain)
  • Cervical radiculopathy
  • Cervicogenic headaches
  • Gluteal tendinopathy
  • Shoulder pain/rotator cuff tendinopathy
  • Achilles tendinopathy/heel pain

And More!

Dry needling often helps reduce pain and improve function in individuals with chronic pain, especially when combined with movement-based therapy and education.

Dry needling can help reduce symptoms and improve function, but long-term results often depend on addressing movement patterns, strength, and activity demand following treatment. It is part of the equation, but not magic. Dry needling creates a window of opportunity to allow targeted exercise to kickstart the long term results you're looking for.

All dry needling services with Precision Physical Therapy are provided by Dr. Kevin Baldwin, a licensed Wyoming physical therapist with advanced training in intramuscular dry needling and e-stim.

Myofascial decompression is a modern evidence-based approach to cupping that involves active movement strategies with instrument assisted soft tissue mobilization by use of cups and negative pressure

“Myofascial Decompression addresses connective tissue restrictions by improving the mobility of the soft tissue layers. The use of negative pressure with suction cups creates space between the soft tissue layers that allows each layer to slide one upon another with decreased viscosity and improved movement efficiency.” (Cup Therapy)

The number of sessions varies based on your condition, goals, preferences and response to treatment. Some individuals notice a great deal of improvement after one session, while others benefit from multiple visits.

Session length varies depending on the service provided and your individual needs (from ~30-60 minutes). Details will be discussed at booking and a summary of session types and pricing can be found elsewhere on our website.

A small open space is typically sufficient. Any specific setup needs will be discussed prior to your visit. We bring a mobile treatment table and all necessary supplies, we just ask for a clean space to set up the table.

The type of clothing is usually dependent on the area being treated, but it is usually best to wear loose fitting and athletic clothing during our treatment sessions. Shorts are desireable when treating the lower extremity and pelvis. Wear clothing that can allow you move freely.

Ladies: if possible, please wear a sports bra, especially if we are treating around your neck, upper back, or shoulder.

You may experience mild soreness or muscle fatigue for 24–48 hours. Guidance will be provided to support recovery between visits. Dr. Baldwin will be available by phone or text message if you have any questions between sessions regarding prescribed exercises, or self-care following a visit. Depending on your assessment and need, future visits will be scheduled as needed.

If you experience any signs or symptoms that you are not sure about, please reach out to Dr. Baldwin and he can talk throught this with you.

Mobile physical therapy means care is delivered at your home, workplace, or another convenient location instead of a traditional clinic. We come to you.

Service areas include Casper, WY and surrounding areas. If you want clarification, please contact us to confirm.

For corporate services (only for larger groups of employees) we can schedule a specific date to provide services outside of Casper (i.e. Laramie, Cheyenne, Gillette). Please contact us to discuss this option.

Currently, Precision Physical Therapy is a cash-based practice and does not bill insurance. This model allows for longer one-on-one care, flexible treatment plans, and decisions based on clinical need—not insurance limitations. Depending on growth, me may offer in-network services with some insurances in the future, but do not currently offer this.

Yes. HSA and FSA funds are commonly accepted for physical therapy services. We recommend verifying eligibility with your plan administrator if you are unsure.

Some clients choose to submit receipts to their insurance provider independently. Reimbursement is not guaranteed and depends on your specific plan. Needed receipts/superbills will be provided if you choose to pursue this.

Due to current laws and regulations that prevent physical therapists from opting-out of Medicare as a provider, Precision Physical Therapy LLC is unable to provide cash-pay services to you at this time. We hope this changes in the near-future.

No referral is required. Wyoming is a direct-access state, meaning you do not need a referral to be seen by a Physical Therapist. This may vary depending on individual circumstances, and you can seek a formal referral from your physician if you choose to do so.
